All-electric SUV, the Nissan Terra concept released

Nissan recently unwrapped the Terra concept, is a zero-emission, all-wheel-drive fuel cell vehicle, will debut at this year’s Paris Motor Show.

The design concept is meant to show off what Nissan thinks its "youthful customers in Northern Europe" are pining for in a sustainable runabout. We had no idea those buyers were yearning for a chubbier Juke.

"Our challenge was to take Nissan’s strength in SUVs and crossovers forward into the zero-emissions era, fuel cells being our new frontier in zero emission mobility," said Francois Bancon, Nissan’s division general manager of product strategy and planning.

Inside the cabin is a light and airy design theme, dominated by a driver-focused cockpit and removable tablet PC that controls all functions of the vehicle and even serves as its key.

Nissan also says that the in-wheel motors allow the Terra to have powered rear wheels with a completely flat floor. That flat floor should come in handy, as Nissan envisioned the Terra as something of an urban/suburban runabout, a car that can handle all-weather situations but isn’t intended for true off-roading. Still, the flat floor and hatchback should make it easy to carry things like bikes or kayaks.
