HONDA KILLS PLANS FOR NEW NSX

Honda Kills Plans for New NSX

The latest victim of the automotive market's vicious downturn may be the next-generation Acura NSX. Honda CEO Takeo Fukui announced in his end of year speech that all development of the supercar has been cancelled as part of a restructuring effort inside the company. Fukui also said the company has abandoned plans to bring the Acura brand to Japan by 2010.

Honda was developing a V-10 engine for the NSX, which would have made it the most powerful production car the company had ever made. However, Fukui will now focus on developing hybrid powertrain instead, aiming to achieve mass market penetration as soon as possible.

The original NSX was discontinued in 2005, after a 15-year production run.
